Designing
Hong Kong Harbour District
Urges a Halt to Legal Proceedings
on Harbour Reclamation
(March
8, 2004, Monday) HONG KONG ---- With the judgment on the Central reclamation
due tomorrow, March 9 at 14:15, the organizers of ‘Designing Hong
Kong Harbour District’ urge a halt to legal proceedings.
“We urge all parties to seek to avoid further legal proceedings
as far as possible,” said Paul Zimmerman, chief-coordinator of the
initiative.
“We invite both the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region and the Society of the Protection of the Harbour to actively participate
in a public process of consensus building,” Paul continued. “In
that way the community together can move forward and redesign the Hong
Kong Harbour District on the basis of minimum reclamation and achieving
maximum benefits for the community.”
The ‘Designing Hong Kong Harbour District’ initiative includes
a series of activities between now and June, including a workshop, conference,
forum and seminars.
The Planning Department is already participating as an Advisor, and the
Society for the Protection of the Harbour, as a supporter, are both already
participating.
